Visit Electric Monkey and Holly Jackson at YALC 2018

This weekend (27-29 July) Farshore will have a jam-packed stand at YALC for our Electric Monkey books range.

YALC is the UK’s Young Adult Literature Convention, held within the London Film and Comic Con. It’s an annual celebration of the very best young adult books and authors.

YALC returns in 2018 for its fifth birthday, and Farshore are delighted to be there for the weekend with a great range of fantastic YA Electric Monkey books, and a few surprises!

You can visit the Electric Monkey stand in area A2 for daily giveaways of signed proofs and chapter samples, a chance to meet authors, and the opportunity to chat to Farshore staff about our upcoming Electric Monkey titles.

The brilliant Laura Steven, star of our 2017 YALC stand with her debut The Exact Opposite of Okay, will take part in the My Body, My Way panel on Saturday 28 July at 3pm.

Meet author Holly Jackson

This year, our YALC stand will be taken over by Holly Jackson, debut author of the blistering crime thriller A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, which publishes on 19 May 2019.

Speaking about YALC, Holly says: ‘It’s it’s my very first time at YALC and my first time as an actual author, I am doubly excited for this weekend and also not quite sure what to expect. I’ve read all the YALC survival tips about keeping hydrated and wearing comfortable shoes, so my water bottle and Converse are prepped and ready to go.’

Holly Jackson‘The line-up of authors this year is amazing, so I will definitely be going to watch some panels to learn from the pros. I also can’t wait to see all the different stalls and books on offer and hopefully grab a few ARC’s and amazing new releases: I can’t help it, when I see books I get **grabby hands**’

‘But there are two things I am most looking forward to at YALC. The first is seeing the bound proofs of my book for the very first time. I’m not quite sure what my reaction will be, but I’m expecting lots of squealing and tippy-taps (like an excitable dog about to go on a walk). This will be the first time I see the book as more than a word document on my computer and I cannot wait! I hope I don’t get possessive and lay on all the proofs so no-one can take them.’

‘And the second thing I’m most looking forward to is meeting future readers. It still feels absolutely wild and non-sensical that real-life human beings will be reading my real-life book which I real-life wrote after this weekend. I cannot wait to use my *Official Author Signature* (which I’ve been practising for weeks) and to see readers bundling my proof into their brimming tote bags to take home. I can’t pretend I’m not a little bit terrified at the prospect, but the YA community is possibly the nicest, most welcoming one on earth and I’m so happy that me and my little murder-y book get to be a part of it.’

Holly will be on the Electric Monkey YALC stand lots over the weekend, and you can come to meet her and see her Official Author Signature at the following times:

  • Friday at 11.30-12.00 and 15.30-16.00
  • Saturday at 10.15-10.45 and 14.30-15.00
  • Sunday at 12.30-13.00 and 14.30-15.00

If you can’t make it to YALC, don’t worry – keep updated with the Electric Monkey twitter for hot news from the weekend, and make sure you enter our competition for the chance to win 12 amazing Electric Monkey books!
