Egmont Publishing is delighted to announce the acquisition of Kittens on Dinosaurs, written and illustrated by Michael Slack. Publishing Director Melissa Fairley struck the deal for the story of dino-climbing kittens and their various attempts at scaling dinosaurs with Draga Malesevic at Penguin Random House US for UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding US and Canada).
Michael Slack’s picture book pairs two irresistible creatures together: kittens and dinosaurs! Kittens on Dinosaurs combines a cat-astrophic adventure with an underlying message of perseverance.
They’re adorable! They’re daring! They’re kittens who love to climb things! And they won’t give up until they’ve achieved their ultimate climbing dream: scaling the dinosaurs on nearby Dinosaur Island. The dinosaurs look hungry, their teeth are super big but these kittens have a plan. And then another plan. And then another…well, you get the idea. Can these super cute kittens conquer their biggest challenge yet and avoid cat-astrophe?!
Melissa Fairley said: “I think most cat owners have seen their pets try to climb some crazy things, but these kittens are setting the bar high – they want to climb dinosaurs! Michael’s funny, highly original picture book is exactly what we need right now to lift spirits. Just wait until you find out what happens when the kittens move to Plan D!”
Michael Slack said: “Kittens on Dinosaurs is my favorite book that I’ve created. It incorporates many of my most loved things. Big-eyed adorable kittens, giant prehistoric grumpy lizards, classic Science-Fiction and ridiculous humour. I hope it brings dino-sized smiles to little ones’ faces.”
Michael Slack is the author and illustrator of many books for young readers, including Bunny Built, Shorty & Clem, and Elecopter. His art and character design has been featured in books, television, and games. He lives with his family in the Bay Area of California.
