Egmont to publish hysterical/ ‘historical’ new stories by Andy Stanton

Egmont Publishing are delighted to announce Natboff! One Million Years of Stupidity, the upcoming book from award-winning author Andy Stanton.

His collection of stories will be illustrated by David Tazzyman, reuniting the bestselling Mr Gum partnership.

Natboff Cover Coming Soon!Natboff! One Million Years of Stupidity is a hilarious historical collection packed with new characters, catchphrases and unforgettable comedy moments. Time-travel through the funniest and maddest moments in history, from the Stone Age to a million years in the future, all set in the town of Lamonic Bibber (home of Mr Gum).

Meet the town’s most famous residents, such as Natboff the caveman, Terry Shakespeare, a malcontent squirrel, Strange Mildred the witch, a talking grape called Plover and the mysterious Victorian inventor, Cribbins, who invented mysterious Victorian things. And learn LOADS of stuff about history along the way!*

*You won’t learn anything about history.

Each story in the collection is brilliantly crafted to match its historical setting, with characters and cross-references binding them together. Featuring stories, poems, an alternative history of the British monarchy, and even a ‘Shakespearean’ play, this compilation is perfect for budding comedians to read aloud, as well as being accessible to reluctant readers. This new book stands apart from Mr Gum, but there are plenty of Mr Gum Easter eggs along the way, for fans who want to find them!

Liz Bankes, Commissioning Editor at Egmont, said ‘We’re proud of our reputation for publishing outstanding funny fiction, so we couldn’t be more thrilled to publish this new book from Andy, the king of comedy. Natboff! has been making us laugh on a daily basis for a while now, so it’s only fair that we share it with the world.’

Andy Stanton added: ‘This book’s been a long time coming – but I think it was worth the wait. Just as I always did with Mr Gum, I’ve tried my utmost to entertain, challenge and utterly bamboozle my young readers. It’s great to be back in the game!’

This is the first in a two-book World Rights deal with Eve White at the Eve White Literary Agency and will be published in paperback in May 2018.

The Mr Gum series has sold 3.6 million copies in the UK alone and has been translated into 32 languages. It has won many prizes, including the inaugural Roald Dahl Funny Prize and two Blue Peter Book Awards.

In addition, Egmont are delighted to announce that they have agreed a deal with BBC Worldwide to publish all of the Mr Gum series in audiobook form. This will include reissuing the first three books, narrated by Andy and originally published by AudioGO, and publishing new recordings for books four to eight, which will also be read by Andy and produced by Pozzitive Productions, who produced the original audiobooks.
