Egmont to publish Christmas picture book from Michael Morpurgo and Jim Field

Egmont Publishing is delighted to announce a new picture book from renowned children’s author Michael Morpurgo and bestselling illustrator Jim Field.

Grandpa Christmas is a hopeful and timely story about a grandfather’s heartfelt wish for his granddaughter to live in a better world. The story shares a powerful environmental message about the importance of caring for our planet. Grandpa Christmas will publish on Thursday 04 October 2018.

Every Christmas, Mia and her family read a letter written by her Grandpa. It is a touching wish for Mia, and all of us, to continue to protect and look after our precious world. Morpurgo’s inspiring message is paired with Jim Field’s emotive illustrations, creating a gorgeous Christmas picture book for the whole family to share.

Melissa Fairley, Publishing Director for Picture Book and Gift at Egmont, said ‘Publishing super duo Michael Morpurgo and Jim Field have joined forces to give you the best Christmas present for 2018: a beautiful story about a grandfather’s wish for the world to be a better place for his granddaughter. It’s moving, heart-warming and will inspire people to protect our world for generations to come.’

Field added ‘When I read this manuscript for the first time, it triggered a number of emotions; the very fond memories I have of my Grandfather, the warmth of family together at Christmas but also anger at humanity’s neglect of the environment. We are living at a time when change is drastically needed to protect our world from further decline.

At its core this book has a very positive message, it’s certainly the wish I have for my daughter, and I’d hope all parents, to make a better world for our children to flourish and grow up in.’

Creatively for me it’s a different direction and, as an artist, that keeps it exciting and challenging. It is also an absolute honour for me to illustrate a book written by Sir Michael Morpurgo, I’m still pinching myself now.’

Melissa Fairley, Publishing Director for Picture Book and Gift, signed a deal for world language rights with Veronique Baxter at David Higham. Rebecca Essilifie, Art Director, signed the illustration deal with Jodie Hodges at United Agents.
