Egmont Signs New Picture Book From Award-Winning Barroux

Egmont Publishing are thrilled to announce that we have signed our fourth picture book with award-winning illustrator and author, Barroux.

Publishing in March 2018, How Many Trees? by Barroux is a funny and thoughtful story about the power of little voices, from the creator of Where’s the Elephant? and Welcome.

How many trees make a forest? Each animal thinks they know the answer but they just can’t agree. Could a tiny, quiet voice have the answer?

Simple yet humorous, this charming story is told in Barroux’s inimitable style and features a host of woodland creatures who children will love.

The story encourages children to ask questions about nature and the environment and is a great way to open up discussion on a range of topics.

Melissa Fairley, Publishing Director of Picture Book and did the deal with Kathryn Ross at Fraser Ross Associates for World Rights in all languages. Melissa Fairley said: ‘Barroux is an extraordinary author-illustrator – he tackles really important subjects in a way that makes them accessible for preschoolers. His most recent title, Welcome, has been nominated for the 2018 Kate Greenaway Medal and his co-edition track record for his Egmont picture books is superb: Where’s the Elephant? has 15 languages; Where’s the Starfish? has 13 languages and Welcome has 10 languages.’

Barroux said: ‘Trees are important to so many animals, we need to remember this and make sure their forest homes are well looked after. How Many Trees? reminds us of the importance of listening to one another and being open to seeing the world through someone else’s eyes. I hope it helps children realise that one small change can make a large difference, and encourages parents to listen to the thoughts and opinions of the little voices in their homes.’
